The product is an additional option to its Protect+ range, and is in association with Best Doctors.
Global Treatment covers a range of illnesses, including all cancers, and will arrange and pay for transport from the UK to an international hospital of the customer’s choice.
Mark Anders, director of sales at Friends Life, said: "If a customer or their children were diagnosed with a serious illness, Global Treatment can open the doors to more options, giving them access to treatment at world-renowned hospitals by leading medical experts. If a customer is diagnosed with cancer and the best possible treatment is in New York, Zurich or Sydney, for example, Global Treatment will cover the costs."
The policy includes the ability to bring an accompanying person, and Friends Life will arrange and pay for their accommodation, plus pay £100 per night of hospital stay.
It will also cover the costs of any necessary medication not available on the NHS upon the policy holder’s return to the UK, up to the value of £50,000.
The policy costs an additional £4 per month, on top of the Protect+ policy.
