For UK insurer Standard Life’s
investment division Standard Life Investments (SLI), 2009 proved to
be a winning one in all respects, including new business and that
all-important ingredient, investment performance.
“Standard Life Investments has
delivered very strong growth in global sales, record third-party
assets under management and increased total assets under management
to over £138bn [$212bn],” said SLI CEO Keith Skeoch. “It is
particularly pleasing that over 80 percent of net sales came from
outside the UK.”
Highlights of SLI’s performance in
2009 included:
SLI made particularly strong gains
in a number of foreign markets including India, where its net sales
surged from £400m in 2008 to £2bn in 2009.
Similarly, impressive inroads were
made in Canada where sales were up from £52m to £1.5bn.
In November 2009, SLI received the
award for the “Fastest Growing Money Manager over $10bn” at the
2009 Benefits Canada Awards ceremony held in Toronto.
