Pet insurance company Petplan has partnered with animal media brand The Dodo in a bid to reinvent pet insurance in North America.

As part of the partnership, Petplan will assume the name Fetch by The Dodo next year, combining insurance technology with The Dodo’ brand strength and large community.

The company will also roll out a new, one-stop mobile app to provide pet parents with access to insurance plans, pet community, and personalised pet health and wellness information.

This app will be available to Petplan’s over 250,000 current members and will be extended to The Dodo’s pet-owning audience of 100 million Americans.

Petplan North America president and CEO Paul Guyardo said: “This partnership joins our superior coverage, service, and technology with the reach, engagement and storytelling brilliance of The Dodo.

“Together we’ll create a world of wellness benefits for pets and put it right in the hands of their adoring parents.”

In addition to the one-stop mobile app, Petplan is developing an analytics capability to predict health trajectory of the pets using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The company also intends to offer tools that will enhance pet wellness and decrease vet care costs.

Petplan CEO Paul Guyardo will become the CEO of Fetch by The Dodo when it launches next year.

Group Nine Media CEO Ben Lerer has joined the Fetch board of directors. Group Nine Media is the parent company of The Dodo.
