The academy will offer an 18-month apprenticeship scheme and equip people with the skills that are in demand and create a pipeline of talent.

People from various areas of Zurich’s UK unit such as underwriting, claims, IT and HR will be trained at the academy.

At the data academy, people will be trained to apply learning in their roles and develop their skills to leverage data to benefit clients, including keeping their personal data safe.

The data academy, according to the insurer, is funded with over £500,000 by the apprenticeship levy.

Zurich UK chief data officer Anita Fernqvist said: “We’re incredibly excited to be the first financial services provider to be launching a data academy.

“Data sits at the very core of any insurance business. Zurich has roles ranging from development, architecture, data science, artificial intelligence and customer insight analysis to name but a few. The data academy is a fantastic opportunity to support and grow our talent in an ever expanding and exciting field.”

Following the successful completion of the training, candidates will be awarded a Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship and British Computer Society Diploma in Data Analysis and EMC Proven Professional Data Scientist Associate certification.
