John Hancock, the US division of Toronto-based Manulife, has inked a strategic collaboration with Amazon to ensure the health and wellbeing of its life insurance customers.

Under the tie-up, John Hancock integrated with Amazon Halo, Amazon’s latest initiative in the health and wellness arena.

The Amazon Halo service is said to include a mobile app that offers insights into traditional metrics along with tools and features to encourage healthier habits in users.

Amazon Halo Band, a wearable health and wellness device, is designed to measure activities such as heart rate, sleep, and voice tone to offer insights on the user’s health within the Halo app.

All John Hancock Vitality customers will be able to link the Amazon Halo Band with their vitality accounts to earn points for the daily steps they make for a healthier life.

Those who obtain the highest levels of Vitality engagement will be offered Amazon Prime membership while others can earn Amazon gift cards through the programme.

Furthermore, Amazon Halo Band will be the featured complimentary wearable for eligible John Hancock Vitality members. This includes a three-year Halo membership when the product is launched for the general public.

John Hancock Insurance president and CEO Brooks Tingle said: “Integrating Amazon Halo into our life insurance ownership experience will enable us to continue to transform the role our industry plays in our customers’ lives.

“At John Hancock, we believe a life insurance company is in a unique position to help customers live longer, healthier lives, and by integrating Amazon’s new health and wellness technology into our programme, we can create a more meaningful, engaging and holistic experience for our customers.”

The companies intend to include additional opportunities to expand the programme in the future.

Amazon Halo vice-president Melissa Cha said: “Amazon Halo is a new service dedicated to helping customers improve their individual health and wellness and we are excited to work with John Hancock to integrate Halo into their Vitality programme.

“John Hancock shares our belief that small changes can make a big impact on health, and we look forward to seeing how their customers use the insights Amazon Halo provides to earn rewards, and most importantly, achieve their health goals.”
