UK protection and mortgage advisory firm London and Country Mortgages is to integrate the protection technology business UnderwriteMe into its sales teams.

London-based UnderwriteMe aims to make buying and selling protection insurance easy and fast. Its technology enables intermediaries and customers deal with a range of insurers using a single process from quote through to buy.

A pilot of UnderwriteMe started in August with protection adviser LifeSearch and will be on general release to directly authorised intermediaries in 2016.

Seven insurers are currently committed to being represented on the service: LV=, Royal London, Canada Life, Partnership, Scottish Friendly, Exeter Family Friendly and Old Mutual Wealth.

The latest development with London and Country (L&C) means all 300 of its mortgage and protection advisers will use UnderwriteMe to offer protection insurance to their clients and is expected to go live in six months.

Michael Aldridge, L&C’s sales director said: "The decision to re-engineer our current, successful, protection process was not one we took at all lightly. However, being able to quote, underwrite and apply through one process is a real market first and something we cannot ignore."
