Manulife has appointed Roy Gori as president and CEO of Manulife Asia, effective 1 March 2015.

Gori will report directly to Manulife president and CEO, Donald A. Guloien, and will become a member of the company’s executive committee.

He succeeds Robert Cook who is retiring after a 36-year career at Manulife and the last seven years as head of its Asia division.

Gori joins Manulife from Citi where he was most recently head of consumer banking, North Asia and Australia, and regional head of retail banking, Asia Pacific, which included responsibility for Citi’s insurance and wealth management businesses.

His previous roles included CEO of Citibank Australia and overseeing various credit card and consumer loan businesses across Asia.

Commenting on Gori’s appointment, Guloien said: "Roy has a deep knowledge of Asia, a highly strategic bent, a wide range of experience gained through a number of diverse assignments and proven leadership capabilities. He also shares our values at Manulife and will be a strong cultural fit."

Gori has an economics and finance degree from the University of New South Wales and an MBA from the University of Technology, Sydney. He is married with three children.

Manulife operates in 12 territories in Asia including China, Japan and Singapore.
