US-based Colonial Life has launched a new group critical illness plan bundled with an optional rider, offering a lump sum benefit for the treatment of Covid-19.

It also covers the treatment of over 12 infectious diseases including bacteria, Legionnaires’ disease, meningitis, Lyme disease, and sepsis.

The new flexible plan covers up to 56 different serious conditions and treatment procedures.

This includes heart attack, stroke, cancer, organ failure, or coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

For children, additional conditions that are covered at no extra cost include Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and cleft lip or palate.

Corporate employees opting for the plan can customize their coverage with riders for infectious diseases, cancer, first diagnosis, heart procedures, and progressive diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Colonial Life assistant VP for product development Pam Jenkins said: “Even employees with good health insurance can face significant expenses from co-pays, deductibles and nonmedical costs related to a serious illness.

“Group critical illness insurance helps relieve financial worries by providing a lump-sum benefit payable directly to you to use as needed.”

The plan also offers spouse and child coverage, HSA-compatibility, 100% coverage for breast cancer, wellbeing assistance benefit, and access to Helpsy Health mobile app.

Jenkins added: “Critical illness insurance is an affordable option that can help employees better protect their families, their finances and their futures.”
