Aon has established a North America healthcare vertical within its Risk Capital division, appointing Nick Gaudiosi as industry leader of the new unit.
The specialised vertical combines Aon’s commercial risk services for healthcare providers with its healthcare liability reinsurance operation, which supports US insurers of physicians, hospitals, and long-term care organisations.

Gaudiosi, who will continue to oversee the firm’s medical professional liability reinsurance strategy alongside his new responsibilities, joined Aon in 2023.
Since 2025, he has served as senior managing director and healthcare segment leader for reinsurance.
Prior to his tenure at Aon, Gaudiosi was president and chief operating officer at American Healthcare Providers Insurance Services.
Gaudiosi said: “The risks carried by health systems and by the insurers that protect physicians and hospitals are increasingly linked. Bringing our reinsurance and commercial risk expertise together gives clients one integrated view of that risk and a clear strategy for financing it.”
Aon stated that the practice will consult hospital systems, physician groups, and insurers on evaluating correlated exposures, determining appropriate levels of risk retention, and executing risk-transfer structures.
These solutions encompass insurance, reinsurance, captive vehicles, and alternative capital markets.
Aon Risk Capital CEO Joe Peiser added: “Through our Risk Capital structure, Aon is uniquely positioned to help connect both providers and insurers with the right capital, in the right structure, at the right time.”
The launch follows other strategic developments announced by Aon in August.
During that month, the company agreed to purchase insurance broker USI from private equity firm KKR and other shareholders in a transaction valued at $17bn.
In the same month, Aon introduced Sidecar X, a facility providing up to $200m in capacity for transactional risk insurance.
Housed within Aon’s Global Sidecar Platform, Sidecar X launched across the US, Canada, the UK, the European Economic Area, and Asia to supply representations and warranties insurance alongside tax insurance.
