UK insurance intermediary Clear Group has acquired specialist broker Commercial Risks (UK) alongside its managing general agent, Troon Underwriting.
Established in 2002 and headed by James Osman, Commercial Risks operates as a London Market broker, securing placements for “complex, challenging and specialist risks” across Lloyd’s and surrounding company markets.

The company conducts most of its business in the wholesale market, partnering with intermediaries throughout the UK to secure dedicated London Market capacity and construct tailored terms for policies requiring underwriting expertise outside the standard composite market.
Osman said: “Joining Clear gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation while benefitting from the scale, infrastructure and resources of a larger independent group.
“It will allow us to broaden our capabilities while retaining the expert-led approach and personal relationships that have always been central to the business.”
The company focuses on commercial combined, contractors’ risks, casualty, professional risks and property owners’ business, alongside education, care, sports, leisure and entertainment.
In addition to its broking remit, the seven-person business maintains a selective retail portfolio, holds status as an approved Lloyd’s coverholder and operates Troon Underwriting via several delegated underwriting authorities.
Clear highlighted the purchase as an expansion of its London wholesale operations, a sector that has represented a primary growth priority in recent years.
The group stated that Commercial Risks “brings established technical liability expertise, long-standing Lloyd’s capacity relationships and a strong network of brokers, alongside a consistent track record of winning new business”.
Commercial Risks will retain its London Market specialisation while expanding its ties with broker partners and insurance carriers.
Clear Group CEO Mike Edgeley added: “The acquisition forms part of Clear Group’s broader growth strategy, which combines organic development with targeted acquisitions that add specialist expertise, strengthen its market proposition and create greater value for clients and broker partners.”
