Property and casualty insurer Chubb has appointed Mike Berry as the new head of surety for Europe, with immediate effect.

Based in London, Berry will now manage the strategy of the firm’s surety business in Continental Europe as well as the UK and Ireland.

The firm’s European surety team operates from the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Italy, France and the UK.

In the new role, Berry will report to Chubb EVP and head of international surety Bruce Cliff and COO for Continental Europe Adrian Matthews.

Berry joined Chubb’s surety business in 2015 and most recently was the head of surety for the UK and Ireland. He will be replaced in this role by Jamal Griffith.

Berry also worked for 27 years at Euler Hermes and predecessor companies.

Jamal joined Chubb in 2010 and formerly served as senior surety underwriter in London. He previously also worked as a surety underwriter at AIG.

In the new role, Jamal will report to Berry and CUO for P&C in the UK and Ireland Mark Roberts.

“I have worked with Mike for several years and see him as a talented leader, uniquely positioned to take our existing, successful European surety business to a new level.  His broad market knowledge, underwriting expertise and collaborative approach will materially benefit our clients, producers and colleagues,” Cliff noted.
