The health insurance business line is AXA Group’s third global business line – the two others are the property and casualty and life and savings global business lines.
In his role as CEO of the health insurance business, Buberl will report to Henri de Castries, chairman and CEO of AXA.
As CEO of AXA Germany, Buberl will also continue to report to Jacques de Vaucleroy, CEO for AXA’s Northern, Central and Eastern Europe region and global head of life & savings.
With revenues of 11bn in 2013, AXA Group says it is the third largest player in the global health insurance business (excluding the US). The new global business Line will be based in Paris and share resources with AXA Global Life & Savings.
Commenting on AXA’s global business line for health insurance, de Castries said: "We are convinced that a specialized global business line will help us combine focus and a global approach to our health business, to better leverage our existing expertise and address the growing needs we see across the world."
He added: Thomas Buberl, as chairman of the global health board, has already very actively contributed to the development of our health strategy. His leadership and excellent track record at AXA Germany make him the ideal person to lead this new initiative."
