Insurance industry deals total $7.17bn globally in January 2021

Total insurance industry deals worth $7.17bn were announced globally for January 2021, with the $3.5bn acquisition of Annuity Investors Life Insurance, Great American Insurance Group and Manhattan Life Insurance being the sector’s biggest investment, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 36.6% over the previous month of $5.25bn and a rise of 119.9% when compared with the last 12-month average of $3.26bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a flat growth with 22 deals in January 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 22 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $6.89bn in January 2021.

The top five deals accounted for 100% of the overall value during January 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $7.17bn, against the overall value of $7.17bn recorded for the month.

The top five insurance industry deals of January 2021 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance’s $3.5bn acquisition of Annuity Investors Life Insurance, Great American Insurance Group and Manhattan Life Insurance

2) The $2.8bn private equity deal with Allstate Life Insurance by The Blackstone Group

3) Further Global Capital Management and TowerBrook Capital Partners’ $586m private equity deal with ProSight Specialty Insurance Group

4) The $273.66m private equity deal of Markerstudy Insurance Services by Pollen Street Capital and Qatar InsuranceQSPC

5) Channel four Ventures, E.Ventures, Octopus Investments, Seedrs and Venture Founders’ venture financing deal with DeadHappy for $6.45m.
