Royal London Group has appointed Toby Bainbridge as head of reinsurance, which is a new role in the group’s intermediary division, based in Edinburgh.

Bainbridge joins Royal London from Legal & General, where he was head of reinsurance for its insurance business. Earlier in his career, he spent 10 years at Munich Re working in a number of roles from underwriting to business development.

He started his new role with Royal London at the beginning of April, with an immediate focus on improving the intermediary protection business’s reinsurance management.

Bainbridge will also manage two key teams: underwriting and claims philosophy, and underwriting rules development.

Commenting on Bainbridge’s arrival, Debbie Kennedy, head of protection for Royal London’s intermediary division, said: Toby is a core member of an already talented team that is dedicated to developing our protection propositions. He joins as Bright Grey and Scottish Provident embark on an extremely busy and exciting phase of transformation."
