A GlobalData survey suggests consumer openness toward AI-driven insurance interactions is growing, particularly for simple purchasing and comparison journeys. As insurers and insurtechs increasingly deploy conversational AI tools designed to streamline engagement and reduce friction, travel insurance appears well-positioned for chatbot-led distribution given the complexity and variability of trip requirements.

GlobalData’s 2025 UK Insurance Consumer Survey found that 42% of respondents would feel comfortable receiving an insurance quote from a chatbot, including 12.8% who said they would be very comfortable. However, resistance remains significant, with 33.6% saying they would feel uncomfortable receiving quotes via a chatbot, while 24.5% were neutral. These findings suggest that although conversational AI tools are gaining traction among consumers, barriers remain that continue to limit broader adoption.

Against this backdrop, VisitorsCoverage has launched a ChatGPT-powered comparison app, enabling consumers to research, compare, and purchase travel insurance policies through natural language conversations. Users can describe their travel plans, receive personalised quotes, compare coverage options across multiple providers, and review policy details before completing a purchase via the VisitorsCoverage platform.

The launch reflects wider pressure on insurers and distributors to simplify customer journeys and improve digital engagement. Travel insurance is particularly suited to conversational AI given the complexity of coverage selection, variation in trip types, and high levels of consumer uncertainty around policy suitability. AI-enabled comparison tools could help reduce friction in the purchasing journey by making policy information easier to understand and more personalised—particularly for consumers unsure which cover options are most suitable for their travel requirements.
