Concept: German deep tech startup Celus has launched the Engineering Platform to seamlessly integrate into the existing current environment for electronics engineering and automate the entire design process. The platform automatically converts requirements and functionalities into fully working electronics solutions using AI and complex algorithms.
Nature of Disruption: The CELUS Engineering Platform automates manual design procedures to cut down on time. Accelerating the process allows the engineers to spend more time on quality assurance thereby driving better results. The platform integrates three components including Supernova, Orbit, and Cubos. Supernova is an AI-based automation solution that can integrate into the existing electronics engineering environment and boost efficiency. It enables users to specify their needs and instantly identify compatible parts and Cubos for the design. The CELUS Orbit database is built on Cubos. Cubos are comprehensive collections of all essential knowledge and are equipped with all necessary components and requirements that are prepared for usage in any project. The AI uses Cubos data automatically to produce schematics and printed circuit boards (PCB) floorplans in a matter of minutes while maintaining complete compatibility with the electronic design automation (EDA) tool. Orbit helps to import existing knowledge including specifications, reusable modules, design guidelines, components, projects, and templates. This data is centralized and made accessible to the necessary parties, which can enhance design procedures and knowledge exchange between departments and locations.
Outlook: Electronic designers need to manually browse through digitized product catalogs using tables of part specifications to compare goal specifications. This process takes more time to determine the best-suited components and design PCB layout for the circuitry. Celus’ platform automatically identified relevant options and the circuitry is then designed around the component using a digital twin representing design choices. In July 2022, the startup raised $25.6 million in a Series A round led by Earlybird Venture Capital. Celus intends to utilize these funds to grow its user base globally and open an office in the US. Additionally, it is developing tools to assist in automating the placement of individual components on printed circuit boards. The startup plans to integrate traditional optimizers with ML to improve the layout, decrease the size and cost, or accomplish other design objectives.
