South Africa’s Hollard Insurance has launched a prepaid card with the aim of making the claims payment process for consumers easier, safer and more efficient.

The prepaid card was launched in collaboration with MasterCard Worldwide, ValueCard, Opengate and Tutaka.

Payment for the card is made at the point of sale is made via a secure PIN authorised transaction, and cardholders can keep up to date with their remaining balance by visiting the ClaimsCard website.

Arie de Ridder, group procurement manager at Hollard, said: "Since launching the Hollard ClaimsCard, we have paid more than R7m ($789,531) in claims through the card."

Dries Zietsman, MasterCard Worldwide’s country manager for South Africa, said: "The ClaimsCard is set to revolutionise the South African insurance industry, which is ready to embrace financial services products that reduce the risks associated with claims payments."
