Swiss Re has named Tavaziva Madzinga as new CEO of UK & Ireland (UKI) operation, effective 1 January 2019.

Madzinga, who is presently serving as market executive for the Middle East & Africa (MEA) across both property and casualty as well as life and health, will be succeeding Frank O’Neill who stepped down in September.

The reinsurer said that the new Swiss Re CEO will be based in London and will continue to serve as a member of the EMEA management team.

In 2016, Madzinga joined Swiss Re from South Africa-based insurance firm Old Mutual, where he worked as regional CEO for South & East Africa.

Commenting on the appointment, Swiss Re CEO of reinsurance for EMEA Russell Higginbotham said: “I am delighted to have Tava as the leader of our business in the UK and Ireland.

“His strong and successful leadership of the Middle East & Africa region shows that he is the ideal candidate to lead and grow our UKI business.
