Nationwide Mutual Insurance has decided to retain work-from-home strategy for 13% of its workforce to reduce costs and increase competitive prices.
The company plans to employ a hybrid operating model comprising primarily work-from-office in four corporate campuses and work-from-home in most other locations.
Except four main campuses, it will exit most buildings by November 1, 2020 and move associates in these locations to permanent remote-working status.
The four main Nationwide campus locations include downtown Columbus and Grandview Yard in central Ohio, Des Moines in Iowa, Scottsdale in Ariz and San Antonio, Texas.
These locations were selected based on current large concentration of employees, their flexibility to serve members across time zones and ongoing access to talent and subject matter expertise.
Nationwide CEO Kirt Walker said: “We’ve been investing in our technological capabilities for years, and those investments really paid off when we needed to transition quickly to a 98 percent work-from-home model.

The company intends to finalise details such as technology and equipment needs, support mechanisms and telework agreements in the coming months.
Nationwide shifted its work-from-home posture on account of the Coronavirus outbreak in mid-March. The company said it has been able to maintain strong operational and customer service levels during the time.
