This leadership change comes after Liberty merged its two Singapore entities, Liberty Insurance and Liberty Specialty Markets, under one insurance licence on 1 January 2026.

The unified company now operates from One Raffles Quay, Singapore.

Tong brings experience from his previous decade overseeing Great Eastern’s General and Group Insurance in Singapore and over 15 years working in leadership at UOB.

Tong will operate out of Singapore and report to Asia Pacific president Matthew Jackson.

Jackson said: “In Asia Pacific, our goal this year is to operate as one Liberty in each market – creating a simpler, stronger organisation for our customers and partners. The completion of the Singapore company transfer, together with securing Jimmy to lead the business, represents a strong start to the year.”

With the restructuring, former Liberty Insurance chief executive Yasar Fistikci has taken on the role of chief product officer in Singapore.

Nicole Lim, head of Liberty Specialty Markets, will leave the company at the end of April to pursue other opportunities.

The combined operation under the Liberty brand provides general insurance and reinsurance services, including personal and commercial policies as well as specialised solutions for construction projects, corporate customers, and public sector clients.

Last year, Liberty Specialty Markets established a new third-party division for its UK & MENA markets, merging financial and professional lines with its casualty portfolio.
