Liberty Specialty Markets has announced that its reinsurance arm Liberty Mutual Reinsurance has launched a reinsurance operation under Lloyd’s registration in Mexico, aimed at serving clients in Mexico and Central America.

The new LatAm operations will be managed by general manager Rosa Flores. She will join from agribusiness technical consultancy Green Mex, where she served as the CEO.

Before joining Green Mex, Flores worked for Willis Towers Watson as head of treaty for Mexico.

Flores, who has over 18 years of experience in the Mexican market, specialises in agribusiness and catastrophic perils.

In her new role, Flores will report to José Ernesto Ospina, Latam regional manager in Colombia. She will work closely with the underwriting team in Europe and Colombia.

The newly established Mexico reinsurance team will offer property, casualty and specialty treaty reinsurances underwritten by Liberty Mutual Re in Europe.

Liberty Mutual Re head of business development Miguel Martinez said: “Mexico is the largest reinsurance market in Latin America. Liberty Mutual Re did not have local representation for treaty reinsurance business until now, and establishing a local operation within Lloyd’s shows our commitment to our Mexican clients and the importance we place on this market.”

“It will add to our presence in Brazil and Colombia in the region. We have known Rosa for a number of years and are delighted that she has joined LM Re to be our local representative for the Mexican and Central American Market.”

Last month, Liberty Mutual Insurance agreed to acquire global surety and credit reinsurance operations of AmTrust Financial Services.
