Kingstone Insurance, a New York-based property and casualty insurer, has tapped telematics solutions provider Roost in a bid to improve policyholder engagement and lower claims costs.

The insurer will pilot free Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector or a Roost Smart Battery to select policyholders, starting from next month.

The Roost Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector uses smart sensors to detect water leaks, humidity and freezing temperature situations.

Upon detection of loopholes, the device will send smartphone alerts through the co-branded Kingstone Insurance app.

Kingstone president and COO Dale Thatcher said: “Now, with Roost we will also be the brand of forward-looking innovation. Together we will deliver smart sensors that give our customers the best technology to mitigate their risk of water and fire loss.

“At the same time, the initiative enables us to deepen our ongoing relationship with policyholders and agents.”

Roost said that its smart sensors will enable Kingstone policyholders to reduce costs related to fire, smoke and water leaks.

The vendor further noted that its co-branded Kingstone app has been upgraded with features including emergency weather alerts and home service pro access to increase engagement with policyholders.

Roost co-founder and CEO Roel Peeters said: “With Roost’s Home Telematics solutions, Kingstone is extending its proud tradition of service and improving its ability to engage with its policyholders in a meaningful way.”
