Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO), a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies, will recruit more than 1,400 new employees to support its expanding Greater Indianapolis operations.

The insurer has set aside about $16m, which will be invested to double the size of its office at 101 W. 103rd St with the addition of 104,000ft² of space.

With the bigger office area, the Maryland-based underwriter will add IT and claims positions to its existing sales, service and emergency roadside operations.

GEICO general manager of the Indianapolis office Lona Montgomery said: “The support of this thriving community and our growing customer base in Indiana have made this expansion possible.

“We are excited to bring on new associates to help us continue to offer excellent service to our customers across the state.”

Approximately 350 IT and claims staff will be hired this year, while the remaining positions will be filled over the next five years.

With the opening the Greater Indianapolis officein 2013, GEICO hired more than 250 professionals. Since then, the office has more than quadrupled its workforce to over 1,100 associates.

It has sought Applications for positions in the new claims and IT divisions, in addition to sales, service and emergency roadside departments.
