Franklin Mutual Insurance Group (FMI), a property and casualty insurer, has partnered with Nearmap to use the Betterview platform to improve underwriting accuracy and efficiency of inspection.

FMI will use “high-resolution” aerial imagery and AI-powered property insights from Betterview to support faster, more informed decisions across its portfolio.

By integrating the platform into its underwriting workflow, FMI obtains access to timely, location-specific data intended to help identify “high-risk” properties, reduce unnecessary field inspections while improving underwriting decision consistency.

Since its implementation, FMI has analysed more than 75,000 policies. The company reported that aerial imagery revealed exposures such as a roofless barn and abandoned vehicles that might have been missed during in-person inspections.

FMI said the platform enables underwriters to detect and act on information that was previously unavailable.

FMI expects the shift to reduce operational costs and support its expansion into new states.

It further has plans for expanding the Betterview platform use to include additional data layers such as roof age and to extend coverage into commercial lines in the coming year.
