
The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company has entered into an agreement to acquire Sompo Japan Insurance’s 10% interest in The Dai-ichi Frontier Life Insurance Co, for JPY18.5bn ($181.7m).
According to Dai-ichi Life Insurance, the latest move will strengthen its initiatives for further growth. Dai-ichi Life Insurance already owns 90% stake in Dai-ichi Frontier.
Dai-ichi Frontier focuses on savings-type products including individual annuities via financial institutions such as banks and securities companies.
Sompo Japan and Dai-ichi Life Insurance have been working on various initiatives in a wide range of business areas, including mutually supplying their core insurance products.
A full-scale business alliance between the two companies was signed in August 2000.
