UK-based specialty insurer Direct Insurance Group has committed to a permanent remote working arrangement, becoming the first insurer to do so.

The move follows a new perspective on employee workflow as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.

However, the firm intends to retain its eight offices in the UK, Europe as well as North America. It will also retain its London base.

Employees can opt for remote working or office after the lockdown period. They can also choose a combination of the two means as per their requirement post lockdown.

Direct Insurance Group CEO David Bearman said: “Embracing remote working permanently is primarily about the wellbeing of our staff and we have seen how effective ‘working-from-home’ can be. Over the last nine weeks our group has not merely survived the lockdown, we’ve actually thrived.

“Our staff have saved money and countless hours by skipping the daily commute; time that is now spent learning, innovating, exercising, connecting and collaborating. For many there is also more time left over at the end of the day for friends, family and leisure.
