The move follows the guidance issued by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on 19 March 2020.

The FCA has set out several expectations from insurers about travel, motor and home, and private medical insurance offerings amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

ABI motor and home insurers commitment

The home insurance policies of employees working from home because of self-isolation or government advice, will not be affected.

The insurance policies of employees who are required to drive to work will also not be affected.

People who are using their own car to transport medicines or groceries to support others will be covered too if they are impacted by the virus.

Key workers in critical sectors who need to use their own cars to drive to different locations for work purposes will also be covered.

ABI will automatically extend the covers for impacted customers and they need not contact the insurer to update any documents.
