Law firm Clyde & Co has opened a new office in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, following a merger with Stadermann Luiten Advocaten (SLA), a company with a 25-year history in the insurance sector.
The move further strengthens Clyde & Co’s presence in Europe.
SLA represents domestic and international insurance companies and their insureds, specialising in advisory services, coverage disputes, directors and officers (D&O) liability, fire and building damage, personal injury, policy drafting and professional liability.
The company also has experience in Dutch civil court litigation, arbitration and disciplinary tribunals.
The leadership team at the new Rotterdam office will include Wence Rupert, Peter Knijp and Frits van der Woude. They will be supported by four senior lawyers, ten additional lawyers, and six support staff from SLA.
Rupert, who joined Stadermann in 2003, is known for his specialisation in liability and insurance law, while Knijp has expertise in liability, insurance and personal injury law.

Clyde & Co CEO Matthew Kelsall said: “Rotterdam’s strategic location, its role as a major trading and logistics hub and the historic base of operation of both national and international insurance companies and even the (former) insurance bourse make it an ideal base for us to serve our clients in the region.
“We are excited to bring our expertise to the Netherlands and look forward to building strong relationships with our clients here.”
The law firm’s European presence has steadily expanded since the opening of its first office in Paris in 1992. Currently, it has nine offices and nearly 200 lawyers across multiple countries.
This expansion is part of Clyde & Co’s broader strategy to enhance its global footprint, with recent office openings in Accra, Boston, Cairo, Chile, Colombia, Dallas, Kumasi, Milan and Warsaw.
Earlier this year, the firm merged with Tillman Batchelor in Dallas, reinforcing its North American insurance practice.
