Global insurer Chubb has promoted Steve Haney to the role of president and chief underwriting officer (CUO) of Global Surety. 

Haney brings almost three decades of underwriting experience. He most recently served as vice-president, Chubb Group, and division president, North America Surety and chief underwriting officer, Global Surety. 

In this role, Haney will have executive operating responsibility for strategy, underwriting, and profit and loss (P&L) across Chubb’s Global Surety business. 

He will report to Juan Luis Ortega, executive vice-president, Chubb Group and president of North America Insurance, and Paul McNamee, executive vice-president, Chubb Group and president of overseas general insurance. 

McNamee said: “With Steve’s strategic insight and proven ability to implement innovative solutions, he is well-equipped to lead continued growth and strengthen our global surety capabilities.”  

Following Haney’s promotion, Teresa Black will step into the role of division president of North America Surety. 

Black brings 28 years of insurance industry experience, most recently as executive vice-president and chief operating officer (COO) of North America Surety.  

Previously the executive vice-president and COO for the same division, she brings more than two decades of experience within Chubb to her new role.  

Her responsibilities will encompass executive oversight and financial accountability for the North American sector, with dual reporting to Haney and Scott Meyer, senior vice-president and chief operating officer of North America Insurance at Chubb.
