US-based insurtech Breeze has partnered with Assurity Life to roll out an API-driven disability insurance product in the country to help Americans who lacks sufficient income protection.

The digital application and underwriting process for the offering is provided by Assurity Life which also issues the policy.

To purchase the policy, individuals are required to complete an application process online in 10-15 minutes.

The insurtech will allow eligible applicants to skip the medical exam by utilising existing data from health records and other sources.

At present, Breeze is offering the coverage in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Currently, this excludes New York.

Breeze CEO and co-founder Colin Nabity said: “In the midst of a global pandemic, we are proud to launch an insurance product that makes it easier to protect your income in the event you become too sick or hurt to work.

“Our streamlined online experience provides consumers a quick, convenient way to find coverage without enduring high-pressure sales tactics or archaic processes that have plagued the insurance industry in the past.”

In this context, Breeze cited Social Security Administration report.

According to the report, one in four of 20-year-olds are likely to experience a disability that prevents them from working for a minimum of a year prior to reaching the normal retirement age.

Assurity Individual Sales and Ventures vice-president Jared Carlson said: “We’ve long believed modern technology can help an underserved market access vital protection, and Breeze’s system streamlines and simplifies what can otherwise be a complicated process. It’s the right service at the right time, and Assurity is proud to underwrite this revolutionary new platform.”
