
The global insurance industry noticed a 2.7% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by UnitedHealth Group’s 10.1% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The insurance industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.15% when compared with September 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.5% share of the global insurance industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.11% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 0.54% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 0.96% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 52.91% emerged as the top IT occupation in the insurance hiring activity in October 2021, a 5.85% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 18.56% in October 2021, down 0.8% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.58% share in October 2021, a growth of 12.92% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.7% share in October 2021 and a rise of 30.42% over September 2021.
Top five insurance companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 26.48% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global insurance industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
UnitedHealth Group posted 540 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 18.92% over the previous month, followed by Anthem with 493 jobs and a 53.58% growth. Centene with 459 IT jobs and Zurich Insurance Group with 254 jobs, recorded a 190.51% growth and a 21.53% rise, respectively, while Swiss Re recorded a 6.1% rise with 174 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in insurance industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global insurance IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 72.24% share, which marked a 0.1% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 15.78%, registering a 10.33% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 7.91% share and a 5.37% drop over September 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 3.16% and a month-on-month drop of 12.44%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.88%, registering a 27.03% increase over the previous month.
