
The global insurance industry noticed a 1.1% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by UnitedHealth Group’s 11.13% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The insurance industry’s overall hiring activity increased 0.13% when compared with August 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.01% share of the global insurance industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.38% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 2.76% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 4.69% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 55.49% emerged as the top IT occupation in the insurance hiring activity in September 2021, a 7.18% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 19.45% in September 2021, down 12.37% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.45% share in September 2021, a decline of 16.22% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.36% share in September 2021 and a drop of 2.75% over August 2021.
Top five insurance companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 9.06% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global insurance industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
UnitedHealth Group posted 547 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 8.1% over the previous month, followed by Anthem with 318 jobs and an 11.91% decline. Dai-ichi Life Holdings with 227 IT jobs and Zurich Insurance Group with 202 jobs, recorded a 20.91% decline and a 22.31% drop, respectively, while Swiss Re recorded a 13.37% drop with 162 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in insurance industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global insurance IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 71.99% share, which marked an 8.13% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 14.34%, registering a 20.52% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 9.09% share and a 4.28% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 3.93% and a month-on-month rise of 25.32%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.61%, registering a 14.29% decrease over the previous month.
