IT hiring in global insurance industry drops 0.3% in November 2021

The global insurance industry noticed a 0.3% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2021 over the previous month, led by UnitedHealth Group’s 10.45% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The insurance industry’s overall hiring activity declined 2.36% when compared with October 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.77% share of the global insurance industry’s hiring activity in November 2021, up 0.41% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2021 were 7.5% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 13.03% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive insurance IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.44% emerged as the top IT occupation in the insurance hiring activity in November 2021, a 12.84% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 21.91% in November 2021, up 8.15% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.9% share in November 2021, a decline of 7.26% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.46% share in November 2021 and a drop of 26.1% over October 2021.

Top five insurance companies by recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 6.34% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global insurance industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

UnitedHealth Group posted 538 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a drop of 8.81% over the previous month, followed by Anthem with 438 jobs and an 11.16% decline. Centene with 328 IT jobs and Zurich Insurance Group with 231 jobs, recorded a 28.54% decline and a 12.5% drop, respectively, while Dai-ichi Life Holdings recorded a 217.14% rise with 222 job postings during November 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in insurance industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global insurance IT hiring activity in November 2021 with a 71.13% share, which marked a 12.27% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 16.72%, registering a 0.81% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 8.37% share and a 7.11% drop over October 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.93% and a month-on-month drop of 7.36%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.84%, registering a 53.57% increase over the previous month.
