The United States held a 25.8% share of the global insurance industry M&A deal value that totalled $16.55bn in Q4 2018.
In terms of deal activity, the United States recorded 115 deals during Q4 2018, marking a rise of 3.6% over the previous quarter and a rise of 4.6% over the last four-quarter average.

The top five insurance industry M&A deals accounted for 96.3% of the overall value during Q4 2018.
The combined value of the top five insurance industry M&A deals stood at $4.12bn, against the overall value of $4.28bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced insurance industry M&A deal tracked by GlobalData in Q4 2018 was Japan Post Holdings’ $2.4bn acquisition of Aflac.
In second place was the $650m acquisition of FOJP SERVICE and Hospitals Insurance by The Doctors and in third place was Berkshire Hathaway’s $460m acquisition of The Travelers Companies.
The $405m acquisition of National Teachers Associates Life Insurance by Horace Mann Educators and National Western Life Insurance’s acquisition of N.I.S. Financial Services and Ozark National Life Insurance for $205.5m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
