US insurance industry sees a drop of 28.9% in deal activity in November 2019

The US insurance industry saw a drop of 28.9% in overall deal activity during November 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 37 deals worth $73.25m were announced in November 2019, compared to the 12-month average of 52 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 32 deals which accounted for 86.5% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with five deals, followed by with transactions, respectively accounting for 13.5% and % of overall deal activity in the country’s insurance industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US insurance industry with total deals worth $51.25m, followed by private equity deals totalled $22m.

US insurance industry deals in November 2019: Top deals

The top three insurance industry deals accounted for 93.5% of the overall value during November 2019.

The combined value of the top three insurance deals stood at $68.5m, against the overall value of $73.25m recorded for the month.

The top three insurance industry deals of November 2019 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Y Combinator Continuity Fund’s $45m venture financing of Vouch Insurance Services

2) The $22m acquisition of Kilpatrick Life Insurance by Security National Life Insurance

3) Afore Capital, Loop Ventures and Techstars Ventures’ $1.5m venture financing of Kover.ai
