The value marked an increase of 52.3% over the previous quarter and a drop of 31.2% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $21.09bn.
Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $11.09bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $11.09bn.
In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for insurance industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

In 2020, as of the end of Q3 2020, insurance M&A deals worth $65.35bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 165.5% year on year.

The top five insurance industry M&A deals accounted for 86% of the overall value during Q3 2020.
The combined value of the top five insurance M&A deals stood at $12.47bn, against the overall value of $14.51bn recorded for the month.

1) The Allstate’s $4.52bn acquisition of National General Holdings
2) The $3.35bn asset transaction with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance by Empower Retirement
3) Rand Merchant Investment Holdings and Sampo’s $2.14bn acquisition of Hastings Group
4) The $1.68bn acquisition of Versant Health by MetLife
5) The merger of Sirius International Insurance Group and Third Point Reinsurance for $788m.
