The value marked an increase of 54.7% over the previous month and a drop of 82.1% when compared with the last 12-month average of $8.73bn.
In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a flat growth over the last 12-month average with 87 deals against the average of 87 deals.
In value terms, Asia-Pacific led the activity with deals worth $1.08bn.

The top five insurance deals accounted for 78.8% of the overall value during March 2019.
The combined value of the top five insurance deals stood at $1.23bn, against the overall value of $1.56bn recorded for the month. The top announced insurance deal tracked by GlobalData in March 2019 was CA Emerald Investments’ $647.68m private equity deal with SBI Life Insurance.
In second place was the $214m asset transaction with SURA Seguros de Rentas Vitalicias by Bicecorp and Sociedad Inversiones Bice Chileconsult and in third place was Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board’s $166.44m private equity deal with SBI Life Insurance.
The $128.87m venture financing of FRIDAY (Germany) by Baloise Holding, GMPVC German Media Pool and SevenVentures and Gaorong Capital, IDG Capital, Tencent Holdings and Yuri Milner’s venture financing of Beijing Internet Technology for $74.47m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
