Total insurance industry deals for December 2020 worth $6.63bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 96.01% over the previous month and a drop of 12.9% when compared with the last 12-month average of $7.61bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 42.9% over the last 12-month average with 70 deals against the average of 49 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $4.15bn.

The top five insurance deals accounted for 90.3% of the overall value during December 2020.

The combined value of the top five insurance deals stood at $5.99bn, against the overall value of $6.63bn recorded for the month.

1) Farmers Exchanges and Farmers Group’s $3.94bn acquisition of MetLife Auto & Home Insurance Agency

2) The $750m private equity deal with RiverStone Europe by CVC Strategic Opportunities II

3) Bain Capital’s $694.58m private equity deal with LV=

4) The $401.89m private equity deal with Lane Clark & Peacock by Charterhouse Capital Partners

5) Partners Life’s asset transaction with National Australia Bank for $205.29m.
