The value marked an increase of 750.2% over the previous month and a rise of 52.7% when compared with the last 12-month average of $8.41bn.
In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 4.3% over the last 12-month average with 98 deals against the average of 94 deals.
In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $7.31bn.

The top five insurance deals accounted for 79.1% of the overall value during September 2020.
The combined value of the top five insurance deals stood at $10.16bn, against the overall value of $12.84bn recorded for the month.
The top five insurance industry deals of September 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:
1) Empower Retirement’s $3.35bn asset transaction with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance
2) The $2.66bn private equity deal with Rothesay Life by GIC and Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance
3) Singapore Life, Sumitomo Life Insurance and TPG Capital’s $1.97bn private equity deal with Aviva
4) The $1.68bn acquisition of Versant Health by MetLife
5) Bessemer Venture Partners, Greenspring Associates, New Enterprise Associates, The Blackstone Group, Tiger Global Management and T Rowe Price Associates’ private equity deal with Bright Health for $500m.
