MetLife has introduced new grief counseling services for its basic group life insurance programs to help employees cope with challenges associated with a loss.

The new offerings provide employees with access to licensed professional counselors and related services, and are available from January next year, subject to state availability, for new and existing customers.

Provided by Harris, Rothenberg International (HRI), MetLife’s grief counseling service provides employees as well as their dependents and beneficiaries with required counseling to deal with difficult emotional challenges.

The counselors are available across the US, and counseling offered will be confidential and free of cost.

MetLife Group Life vice president Stephen Pontecorvo said that giving employees and their dependents access to these types of services helps them get back to a productive life.

"Providing the resources, comfort, and support to deal with a loss helps enhance the group life benefits program for all stakeholders.

"This valuable service can ease employee stress levels and increase their focus and peace of mind which can result in greater productivity, offering employers added value," Pontecorvo added.

Along with the counseling service, employees will have access to research specialists who can find services and send referrals for free.
