Its work covers property and casualty business, including property catastrophe, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation.

The transaction, whose financial terms were not revealed, broadens Willis Re’s US reinsurance broking operations and adds capabilities in complex property and casualty risks.

It also gives the company an operational presence in the US market.

Willis Re announced a definitive agreement to acquire BMS Group’s US Reinsurance division in August 2026.

BMS Re US works with regional and superregional carriers, managing general agents, and programmes.

Willis Re board member Lucy Clarke said: “We are delighted to welcome the BMS Re US team to Willis Re. By bringing together our complementary strengths, we are creating a stronger platform for growth, with access to a broader global network, deeper market relationships and enhanced specialist expertise.

“This will support continued expansion, closer engagement and the delivery of greater value to our clients.”

Last month, Willis Re named Thomas Artmann as chief executive of Willis Re Germany.

Based in Munich, Artmann is responsible for developing the company’s German operations, establishing its presence in the region, and advancing its strategic objectives.

In July, Willis Re established a Global Life Reinsurance Practice to provide independent advisory and broking services to life insurers, reinsurers, and pension and annuity providers globally.

The practice followed the appointment of Christian Howells as head of life reinsurance.

The broker said the practice was created in response to increased demand for more advanced risk transfer, capital management, and balance sheet optimisation support amid a more challenging market environment.
