Insurtech company Cover Genius has signed a partnership with Tongcheng Travel to introduce travel insurance options for international travellers,
According to the press statement, the first launches are planned for Malaysia and the Philippines.

The arrangement is intended to support Tongcheng Travel’s expansion outside China.
Customers booking in the two initial markets will be able to access embedded travel protection during the booking journey.
Under the deal, Cover Genius will supply its embedded protection capability through a single application programming interface connection and a unified commercial structure.
The set-up is designed to let Tongcheng Travel introduce, oversee and expand insurance products across different markets without having to work individually with multiple insurers or deal separately with varying regulatory processes.
The companies said the approach is aimed at simplifying operations while also creating a pathway for additional product rollouts and entry into further markets.
The tie-up comes as travel businesses increasingly turn to insurtech-based models, seeking faster market entry, greater operational flexibility and improved customer experience compared to traditional insurance routes.
The launch adds to Cover Genius’ activity in the Asia-Pacific region and aligns with Tongcheng Travel’s broader international growth plans.

In June last year, Australian life insurer TAL partnered with Cover Genius to release an embedded life insurance product in Australia.
Branded as backd by TAL, the product is aimed at part-time workers, contractors and casual employees, combining Cover Genius’ digital distribution capabilities with TAL’s life insurance expertise to deliver cover via platforms already in use across the country.
