The Australian state of Tasmania’s Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) has selected Fineos to supply a new claims management system to replace its motor accidents claims system (MACS).

The replacement will be delivered through the Fineos Platform, which the MAIB says is intended to provide a modern, secure and client-focused way to manage motor accident claims across the state.

Launceston-based MAIB is a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise that provides compulsory third-party personal injury cover for motorists under the Motor Accidents (Liabilities and Compensation) Act 1973.

It also supports people recovering from injuries sustained in motor accidents, regardless of fault.

The MAIB’s decision to update its core claims technology follows increasing issues with the older system.

These included limits on data access and reporting, alongside concerns related to protecting client information.

The legacy platform was also seen as not fully supporting the MAIB’s broader aims around improved client outcomes and greater operational efficiency.

Fineos CEO Michael Kelly said: “MAIB plays a vital role in supporting Tasmanians impacted by motor accidents. By modernising their claims platform, MAIB is positioning itself to enhance client outcomes, strengthen data security and improve operational agility.”

The MAIB expects the new system to support several priorities.

These include moving to a more flexible, current platform, lowering administrative workload, and strengthening cybersecurity, analytics and reporting.

The organisation also expects better integration with other systems, stronger data protections, and wider use of digital services and automation for clients.

The MAIB said it selected Fineos following an evaluation process that reviewed how closely the platform aligned with its operational requirements.

MAIB CEO Paul Kingston added: “The new Fineos platform will give our staff the tools they need to work more efficiently and proactively support our clients.

“This is an important step in ensuring the MAIB remains reliable, secure and prepared for the future so we can continue to support Tasmanians who depend on us.”

Fineos, which is headquartered in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, describes its product as an off-the-shelf claims management system designed for social insurance organisations.

The company develops core systems used by life, accident and health insurers, and says its platform supports group, individual and social insurance schemes including integration and automated processes.
