DUAL Europe, part of Howden, has launched a cargo insurance business, expanding its marine portfolio.

This follows the launch of its Marine hub in September 2023.

Chris Wittoeck, with more than 25 years of experience in marine cargo underwriting, assumes the role of head of Cargo at DUAL Europe.

His career includes key roles at various insurance entities including Jean Verheyen (AXA Group), 24Vision Insurance Solutions, Groupe Eyssautier, AMLIN and AXA Corporate Solutions.

Wittoeck’s team at DUAL Europe will include Marc Stoopman, who takes on the position of lead underwriter Cargo for the Benelux region.

Stoopman’s insurance career spans three decades and includes expertise in marine, cargo and logistics.

Previously, he had stints at TenneT, Marsh, Starr Underwriting Agents (Lloyd’s) and Overvliet Assurantiemakelaars.

The team is expected to grow, with plans to recruit additional experts, starting in Germany and subsequently extending to other European markets.

DUAL Europe cargo insurance coverage includes all risks and additional cargo-related extensions such as Waterborne War Worldwide.

It is designed to serve a diverse clientele including exporters, freight forwarders, importers, manufacturers, producers, road carriers and traders.

It also covers cargo property and liability, stock and transit, and is open to all types of cargo. Clients will have the option to choose between lead and follow lines underwriting.

For the time being, cargo claims will be managed by Femke Nollet, head of Claims at DUAL Benelux, until a specialised cargo claims unit is put in place.

DUAL Marine Europe MD Aram Stoop said: “Over the last two years, our marine business has grown dramatically with fantastic support from our network of brokers. This new addition to our marine proposition is driven by the demand for a solution-driven approach, including niche sectors.

“In challenging market conditions, leadership is essential for a sustainable competitive advantage. Our team will work closely together to deliver truly client-focused solutions.”

Recently, DUAL Group teamed up with KYND to improve its cyber insurance offerings, starting with a rollout in Australia and New Zealand before expanding globally.
