Daman, a specialised National Health Insurance
Company  in the United Arab Emirates (UAE),  has launched
Daman Health Insurance Qatar (Daman Qatar) in partnership with
Munich Health, which is part of Munich Re.

The newly formed business will focus  on
providing private health insurance plans for small and medium sized
enterprises, corporate and governmental clients in Qatar.

Daman said Daman Qatar would enter the market
with comparatively higher annual policy limits and coverage of
existing medical conditions as standard.

Daman’s entry into Qatar comes at a time when
the provider cited a recent study by the Qatar Financial Services
Authority showing that 60% of the insurance industry top executives
are confident that the insurance sector will grow at a rate higher
than the GDP.

Presence strengthened

Daman chairman Khaled Al Qubaisi, Chairman of
Daman, said  the new operation strengthens the provider’s
presence in the region.

and this step is an integral part of our strategic growth
plan.”

Daman was formed in Abu Dhabi in September
2005, with Munich Re named as its strategic partner.

It is now in the process of introducing a
scheme called thiqa, to provide all UAE nationals with a thiqa
card, which will replace their existing health card

The thiqa card will enable every UAE national
to access a number of private and public health care providers
registered within Daman’s network.
