Pakistani insurer State Life Corporation is
reportedly planning to launch a new health insurance scheme in the
United Arab Emirates (UAE) and elsewhere in the Gulf region.
Gulf News reported that State Life will
provide cover for Pakistanis and other expatriates in the UAE. It
is hoping to capitalise on the compulsory insurance laws that
Abu-Dhabi has developed over the last few years, and which may soon
be extended to the other emirates.

Shahid Aziz Seddiqi, chairman of State Life
Insurance Corporation, said that the introduction of mandatory
medical cover for employees made it timely to launch a policy aimed
at the low income market.
He was reported by Gulf News as saying: “We
are finalising a plan to roll out a new health insurance scheme to
cover the medical needs of hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis and
other expats in the UAE and in other Gulf region countries
following high demand from the expatriate community.”
Khalid Mahmoud Shahid, Gulf zonal chief of
State Life, reportedly added that State life currently claims over
15,000 policyholders in the UAE, and expects another 4,000 to be
added this year.
Shahid reportedly added: Our Life Fund in the Gulf region
recorded very robust growth in the past three years as premiums
rose to $66.5 million this year compared to $38 million in
2008.”
