British personal lines insurer LV= General Insurance (LV=GI) has introduced a car insurance voice skill for Amazon Alexa or Google Home Assistant devices.

The technology will enable the users to get answers associated with their car insurance policy queries. All they need to do is to ask their smart speaker to “Open LV”.

The insurer launched the technology in collaboration with specialist agency Rabbit and Pork.

Rabbit and Pork managing director John Campbell said: “It’s important that companies such as LV= have a presence on voice-enabled devices, as we are seeing them become part of our daily lives.

“We look forward to building on this first version with more content and features in the future.”

Initially, the technology will offer answers for more than 500 queries related to policy. These are based on commonly asked LiveChat and call centre queries.

The insurer will also take the help of updates to refine the answers.

LV=GI claims that the new technology is the first car insurance voice skill offered by a direct insurer.

By using the new technology, the insurer anticipates a decrease in the number of policy-related queries received by its call centre. Currently, its call centre receives more than 28,000 queries on a monthly basis.

LV= GI sales and marketing director Jon Mansley said: “At LV= GI we’re always trying to make things easier for our customers, so with nearly 13 million smart speakers sold in the UK in 2019 we thought a voice app would be helpful.

“With the launch of this new voice skill, customers can now find out details of their policy in a matter of seconds, simply by asking their smart device.”
