France-based insurtech Alan has raised €50m ($54.3m) in a Series C investment round and has launched services in response to Covid-19.

The round was led by Temasek, a global investment company out of Singapore. It also included existing investors such as Index Ventures. Total funding for Alan has now reached €125m.

The funding will be utilised for additional health services and international expansion. This is all part of its goal to build frictionless, fair, and friendly healthcare for all.

Alan aims to deliver better outcomes and contribute to better functioning healthcare systems. It plans to do this by rethinking how people access care, mainly through a more human-centric, preventative, digital and transparent model.

So far, the insurtech has offered its members fast and easy access to medical professionals, either with in-person or video appointments.

In addition, clients are given access to information and care support through the firm’s app. This includes tools to better anticipate health journeys, which can involve multiple professionals and clinics. Its “Alan Map” allows users to source medical help and handle reimbursements.

“Once the world begins to emerge from the Covid-19 health crisis, we believe that expectations and demands on the healthcare system will lead to a much faster transition to digital solutions. This is not just about convenience, but about delivering better care,” said Jean-Charles Samuelian, co-founder and CEO of Alan.

In response to Covid-19, Alan has introduced “Coup de pouce”, free access to the latest information on the pandemic, personalised symptom checker, free telemedicine service, and also services such as meditation and yoga for mental health.

Samuelian added: “Since its creation, Alan has been driven by its mission to make the healthcare system frictionless, fair and friendly for everyone. In the current crisis, this is more needed than ever. The global Covid-19 outbreak has reinforced people’s aspiration for more control over their health, and for a better healthcare system at every level.”
