Canada’s insurance industry registered a 10.3% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring a decreased by 5.64% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the insurance industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 9.8% share in August 2021, recording a decrease of 0.7% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s insurance industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.83% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s insurance industry in August 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 50.26% in August 2021, registering a 6.74% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 17.46% share, an increase of 43.48% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 15.34%, registering a 36.96% decline from July 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 8.99%, down 19.05% over the previous month.

Top five insurance companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 8.74% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s insurance industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

Power Financial posted 38 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 72.73% over the previous month, followed by Intact Financial with 24 jobs and a 22.58% drop. Sun Life Financial with 18 IT jobs and The Co-Operators Group with 17 jobs, recorded a 5.88% flat growth and a 10.53% decrease, respectively, while Great-West Lifeco recorded an increase of 7.14% with 15 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 68.25%, up by 0.78% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 20.11% share, registered a decline of 29.63% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.58% share, up 33.33% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.06%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
